VARIATIONS AFTER JOE

by Ege Maltepe

Variations After Joe is a project written out of improvisation with The New Actors Ensemble, combined with J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The project has been developed as Ege Maltepe’s thesis project for her graduation from the Master of Arts program at The New Actors Workshop and Antioch McGregor in 2009. This improvisational ensemble work process included techniques of Viola Spolin, Spolin Improvisation, and Beatrice Lee’s Movement Improvisation. Under Maltepe’s direction and story line, the ensemble created a scripted material out of improvised scenes and circumstances.

Variations After Joe previewed in Cave Art Space, Brooklyn and was performed in Arthur Seelen Theatre, NYC. The show included pianist Emir Gamsızoğlu’s performance of Goldberg Variations.
