TEACHING

Ege Maltepe’s teaching concentrates Viola Spolin’s improvisation method. Spolin is known the American mother of improvisation, was a genius theater maker who created a system of acting and teaching theater to people of all ages and from all backgrounds. Her seminal book Improvisation for the Theater, first published in 1963, revolutionized how theater is taught, also had and keeps on having a great impact on many fields from education to psychology. Maltepe translated Improvisation for the Theater into Turkish.

After graduating from New York City’s The New Actors Workshop, (a school founded by Mike Nichols, George Morrison and Viola Spolin’s son Paul Sills) in 2009, Ege founded Spolin-ist. Since then, she has been leading various groups in Turkey and United States. Spolin-ist Players in New York performed shows in New York City, and in 2018 she started a two year Spolin program in her hometown in Istanbul.

Maltepe offers Spolin improvisation workshops for actors, non-actors, teachers, and also tailors special programs for different corporations and businesses.

Maltepe also teaches acting technique lessons (one on one, or in small groups) for professional actors and those who prepare for auditions.
